Working hard!

Good evening!

It’s another Thursday post, I wanted to do one earlier this week but haven’t found the time. It’s been a really encouraging week in 1JM. It’s encouraging to see the children become comfortable with the routines and timetables.

A major focus for the class has been our understanding of how to play actively, safely, and kindly. We had a class discussion on the safe games we can play during Covid and the kind way we should act during play too. We also spoke about how if disagreements or incidences occur during play then it is important that we resolve them with a teacher/lunchtime supervisor as soon as possible. If, as a class, 1JM were able to have 5 star play times then they would be rewarded with a play in the forest school. I’m pleased to say, that today the children earned those 5 stars! Please enjoy some pictures of the children at play.

Earlier in the week we had our first Computing lesson as a class. Even before we start using the computers, it is important that the children are clued up on e-safety. Throughout the year I will be emphasising with the children the importance of staying safe online and around computers. Check out some of these agreed points!

The children will grow up in a computer environment wean scarcely imagine, so it’s imperative that they are clued up on e-safety!

My favourite lesson this week by far with the children was Science. In this lesson were faced with the problem of a broken umbrella, wonderfully modelled by the excellent Mrs Agunsoye.

A tricky spot of bother considering the change in weather recently!

Using this problem as a jumping point for our learning, we spoke about the different materials used in the making of an umbrella, the different designs, and the properties required for a working umbrella.

What was important in this lesson was the children were able to differentiate between the materials and their properties. Using this learning, the children set off enthused towards the learning objective of designing their own mended umbrella for Mrs Agunsoye to use. Check out some of these brilliant designs!

I hope you enjoyed another blog post from the best class in the entire universe! Thank you for all those who have got into contact with me about their concerns or any questions they wanted to ask. Concerning parents evening, thank you everyone for the slips. I have began plotting the times but it’s just taking a little while coordinating everything. The slips with times on for those who have given me their forms will go out on Monday!

Have a great day!

Mr Markham and Mrs Agunsoye you are superstars in Isla’s world. She does nothing but talk about how great Year 1 is. As a parent it’s so lovely to hear. Though Isla said you shouldn’t put an umbrella up insideπŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚
Happy Friday everyone and have a great weekend πŸ˜€πŸŒž

    1. That’s great to hear, thank you! Haha thank you for reminding me, it made Mrs Agunsoye and I laugh when Isla was so appalled at me opening an umbrella inside. She actually shouted: “that’s illegal!”.
