Good evening Year 1!
I hope everyone is healthy and well. It’s been another busy and exciting week in 1JM with lots of singing, writing, designing, partitioning, cutting, sticking, playing, and learning. Check out some of what we’ve been up to (so far).
Story telling, reading, and literature is at the centre of everything we do at Woodthorpe across all our subjects. As such, I make sure that I use every opportunity to read to the class including at the end of the day just before they grab their bags and are handed over to go home. Have a look at story-time in action!
In PSHE this week we started to round off our focus this term on dreams and ambitions. I wanted to create something to help decorate the classroom and give the class a reminder of the dreams they work hard to achieve every day. So, we decided to create a ‘Dream Garden’ with the children’s handprint, decorated by the children, with their dreams in the middle of their handprint. Check them out up on the class wall!
In Maths this week the children began their focus on subtraction. I have been showing the children how to subtract a part from a whole using cubes, what this looks like on a part-whole model, on a bar model, and how the children can create number sentences based on word problems and stories told to them. What’s been so encouraging recently is that the children have been able to use this learning with growing independence when tackling their questions in their books. So well done Year 1!
The children have been long overdue trip to Forest School after their effort at playtime in playing nicely together. Most playtimes now are harmonious and safe which means plenty more opportunities for time at Forest School. Check out the fun we had today!
Lastly, an update on Christmas Jumper day. I’m sorry that the video uplink didn’t work, I think there were a few technical issues with how it was uploaded. Tomorrow is Christmas Jumper Day which means that the children should come in wearing a Christmas jumper (or just a Winter jumper). The donation link was attached to the previous blog post and if the children raise enough money then they will get the opportunity to tinsel their teacher! I’m very excited to see what everyone looks like tomorrow!
