Stone Age Enrichment

Tomorrow afternoon (Friday 9th September) will see the children taking part in a Stone Age virtual assembly during school hours. We ask that your child brings in a voluntary contribution of £1.50 tomorrow morning for this assembly.

Next Friday (16th September) will see Year 3 spending the morning at Forest School as part of a Stone Age immersion session. For this, we ask the children to come to school in appropriate clothes that you/they don’t mind getting dirty: tracksuit bottoms/ leggings, a t-shirt, a jumper, a jacket and trainers. Additional footwear (wellies or walking boots) should also come to school in a separate bag.

Reading

The days seem to be flying by already and the children are doing a fantastic job at getting to know the new routines of Year 3 and being in the juniors!

Today and tomorrow have seen/ will see the children being given their reading levels (Accelerated Reader) and a reading record; tomorrow all children will receive their new book bag.

From Monday, the expectation is that children read at home daily and this is recorded in their reading record by a responsible adult. The date, book, pages read and a short comment is wonderful and will allow me to track your child’s reading engagement and progress even more closely. We also have a daily 15-minute reading session in school so it is important that reading books and reading records come back into school daily with your child in their book bag. Once the children have completed a book, they will take an online quiz on the book and change their books. We will build up to a routine so that the children are able to do this independently.

Homework books will also be handed out tomorrow and will be collected in weekly on Thursdays. Homework tasks are set half termly and any homework tasks completed are celebrated in Year 3! Most children tend to aim for between 1-3 pieces of homework a week.
